Annual maintenance cost is a project budget, not a fixed attribute of a solar street light. It depends on local labour, access, contamination, service standards and the installed equipment. Build the estimate from a stated scope and dated local prices rather than applying one worldwide dollar range.
Separate recurring and occasional work
List inspections, panel cleaning, vegetation control, electrical checks, communications and reporting. Estimate visit frequency from site conditions and the equipment manuals. Distinguish a fleet inspection from a per-pole intervention, and show travel, lifting equipment and traffic management explicitly.
Price a transparent example
For illustration only, suppose one combined inspection visit for 20 poles costs US$200, including the stated travel and access scope. Two such visits cost US$400 per year, or US$20 per pole for that activity. Fault repairs, replacement parts, software, taxes and extraordinary access are excluded and must be budgeted separately. Replace every assumption with a local quotation.
Model replacements without promising a lifespan
Use model-specific warranty terms, duty, temperatures and evidence to establish replacement scenarios. A battery cycle count cannot be converted directly into a guaranteed calendar replacement date. Show the assumed component price, labour and transport, and distinguish a planning reserve from a forecast of when failure will occur.
Compare complete lifecycle options
Separate electricity savings, maintenance savings and capital expenditure. Confirm who pays for access, freight and labour during warranty work. Review actual service records after commissioning and update the budget. Remote monitoring may change fault-finding work, but its communications and platform costs also belong in the comparison.
Selection and acceptance checklist

| Routine work | Scope, frequency and local price |
| Site access | Travel, lifting and traffic management |
| Repairs | Parts, labour and response requirements |
| Replacement reserve | Stated scenarios and warranty exclusions |
Frequently asked questions
Is there a universal annual cost per pole?
No. A meaningful estimate specifies location, service scope, pricing date and replacement assumptions.
Does a warranty cover all maintenance?
Check the contract. Cleaning, routine inspections, access, freight and labour may have different coverage.
Can I annualise a battery replacement cost?
Yes, as a clearly stated planning scenario. Do not present an assumed replacement interval as a verified product lifetime.
